Salisbury Plain, liegt in der Bay of Isles an der Nordküste Südgeorgiens und ist mit über 100.000 Brutpaaren eine der größten Königspinguin-Kolonien. Die Kolonie bedeckt eine riesige Fläche vom schlammigen Ufer über die Uferebene die Hügel hinauf. Königspinguine brüten maximal ein Ei pro Jahr aus. Damit das Ei nicht kalt wird bewahrt ein Teil des Brutpaares das Ei von einer Hautfalte bedeckt auf den Füßen auf, während der andere Pinguin im Meer jagt. So pendelt dann ein steter Strom Pinguine zwischen Ufer und Brutkolonie. Das Inselchen Prion Island in der Nähe beherbergt brütende Wanderalbatrosse auf ihren erhöhten Nestern und Skuas die im Tussockgras nisten.
Salisbury Plain is located in the Bay of Isles region on the north coast of South Georgia. The local king penguin colony has about 100.000 pairs and is one of the biggest breeeding colonies. The colony covers a large area from the coast to the mountains. King penguin lay only one egg per year. They do not use a nest but hatch the egg on their feet, covered by a fold in their skin. While one has the egg the other goes hunting in the sea - the steady stream of penguins to and from the colony is quite a sight. So are the nesting white winged albatrosses nesting on their mounds and the skuas nesting in the tussock.
